GIMP for Paint users

We think GIMP scares many of Paint users. So here we explain how to perform on GIMP 2.6 some tasks we consider usual in Microsoft Paint 5.1 (Windows XP) users. The 1% of GIMP that hopefully will be enough to solve 90% of your daily (or weekly) needs on image manipulation.

Download GIMP (not trivial):
http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html

First of all: 3 windows?
* Close the window titled "Layers, Channels, Paths, bla bla bla". So now you have "Toolbox" and a big window with the picture. "Toolbox" is almost useless for our purposes, so the big window is the important window.

Tools > Select area
* Same tool

Tools > Fill with color
* Also on toolbox, 4th row, 3rd column. There it is the bloody can.

Tools > Pick color
* Also on toolbox, 2nd row, 3rd column.

Tools > Text
* Also on toolbox, the huge "A". This is nice.

Resize canvas to image automatically
* When you paste an image on Paint, canvas is resized automatically. In GIMP this is manual:
** If image is smaller than canvas: Menu: Image > Autocrop image
** If image is bigger than canvas: I don't know

Image > Flip/Rotate...
* Menu: Image > Transform

Image > Stretch/Skew...
* Menu: Image > Scale image

Image > Invert Colors
* Menu: Colors > Invert
